Leland Corley

Leland Corley passed away peacefully surrounded by family October 8, 2020 in High Prairie, Texas, on the ranch that he so loved. He was born May 7, 1943 in Madisonville, Texas to Elmer & Irene Corley of Elwood and delivered into this world by Dr. James McKay. He attended Madison County schools and was a member of the MHS Class of 1961. As a young man, Leland worked as a pipeliner and ranch hand. On October 27, 1967, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Mathis.

The Corleys lived in various homes in Madison County and eventually were blessed with a daughter and son. During these years of rearing the family, Leland made a career in the oil field. Ultimately, the Corleys moved back to the family land in High Prairie where Leland enjoyed country life to the fullest. He loved fishing, hunting, camp house cooking and watching wildlife while sipping on a beverage on the porch in the evenings.

After a devastating cancer diagnosis, Leland persisted in working and taking care of his business. He wasn’t about to let cancer get the best of him and he fought against it long and hard. The illness eventually invaded his small wiry body. Leland leaves behind family and lifelong friends who will sorely miss him.

Leland was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother and three sisters. He is also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melissa Dawn (Corley) Spadoni who was claimed by pancreatic cancer in 2016.

Leland is survived by wife, Barbara Ann (Mathis) Corley; son, J Mathis Corley; granddaughters, Caroline & Kayla Spadoni; grandson, Bronc “Tate” Corley and great-grandson, Nolan Wayne Crouch.

At Leland’s request, there will be no funeral services.
