Billy Stephen Blow

Graveside services for Billy Blow, age 70, will be held 11 A.M., Friday, April 17, 2020, at Allphin Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Connor, pastor of Elwood Baptist Church, will officiate the service, assisted by Chaplain Diana Barnes. A viewing will take place Thursday, April 16, 2020, at Madisonville Funeral Home between the hours of 4 P.M. and 8 P.M.

Billy Stephen Blow was born November 17, 1949 in Houston, Texas to William G. & Dorothy Bess (Carter) Blow. His parents moved to Madison County, where Billy was raised, when he was just over a year old. Billy was a 1968 graduate of Madisonville High School and attended Tyler Jr. College in Tyler and Connally Tech in Waco. He also served his country in the United States Navy. Billy was what most people would describe as a “jack of all trades” because of the various jobs he held throughout the his life. He was Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 in Madison County (1978—1990), a guard for T.D.C.J., an oilfield worker and had worked in the mine, just to name a few. Billy was also a proud and devoted thirty year member of the Midway Volunteer Fire Department where he held various positions including his current position of Assistant Chief. He always commented that being a member of the Volunteer Fire Department was his way of giving back to the community. Additionally, Billy was Vice President of the Midway Area Community Counsel and a member of the Allphin Cemetery Association.

Although Billy was never a huge fan of hunting or fishing, he absolutely enjoyed his time reenacting Civil War Battles. He was a proud member and Lieutenant of Terry’s Texas Rangers 8th Texas Calvary Company E. Taking part in these reenactments was Billy’s way of making sure history was kept alive and never forgotten. Billy was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding. He passed away at his home April 15, 2020. Billy is truly the champion of his battle with cancer because he is now residing with his Lord and Savior in Heaven.

Billy was preceded in death by both of his parents and nephew, Scot Simpson. Surviving family members include devoted wife, Carolyn Sue (Wenzel) Blow of Elwood; children, Susan Pugh (husband, Dennis) of Elwood, Laura Gerhart (husband, Morgan) of College Station and Stephen Blow (wife, Danielle) of Jefferson, OH; brother, Terry Simpson (wife, Carol) of Elwood; grandchildren, J.R. Gibson, Dylan Pugh (wife, Taylor), Jack Gibson, Shelby May, Madison May, D.J. May, Olivia Kemmer and Paden Gerhart and great-grandchild, Parker Pugh. Billy is also survived by brothers-in-law, James Wenzel of Montgomery, Jerry Wenzel (wife, Robin) of Navasota and Ronnie Wenzel of Houston, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
