Carletha “C. C.” Hawthorne was born August 22, 1977 in Madisonville, Texas to parents, Savannah A. Spencer and James E. Dickey. Carletha accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor C.D. Evans C.O.G.I.C. Later in life she joined Free Pentecostal C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor James Davis. Carletha graduated from Madisonville High School in 1995 and attended Tyler Jr. College. While attending College Carletha met the love of her life, Grant Hawthorne. She married her husband Grant and together they raised two beautiful children, April and Ayden.
Carletha worked in Madisonville at Durham Transportation and MCISD Alternative School. In 2003, she moved to Texas City, Texas to begin working as payroll administrator for TCISD Transportation. Carletha spent 8 years working as the Dean of Instruction at Clear Brook High School.
Carletha loved cheerleading, volleyball, softball, reading and poetry. She loved her family, friends, shopping for purses, working and cooking. Everyone knew her as “C.C.” For all who were fortunate to have known her will miss her upbeat demeanor and great big personality.
Carletha was preceded in death by grandmother, Lula Mae Williams, father-in-law, James Hawthorne, uncle Jerry Gene Smith and Tangela Smith.
Carletha leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Grant Hawthorne ;children April and Ayden; parents, Savannah A. Spencer and James E. Dickey: mother-in-law, Muriel Hawthorne; sisters, Cherrie Green (Phillip), Lacey Humphrey (Robert); brother, Kevin Smith; aunts, La June Irving (Marion), Rena Woodard, Jacqueline Dickey, Lisa Dickey, Janetta Smith; great aunt Martha Square; uncles James Smith, Matthew Williams (Linda); niece, Tambria Smith; nephew, Trevon House; special cousin Marion “Teeny” Irving (Rachel); special friends Kesha Dickey, Katashia Merchant, Lorenzo Merchant (Leigh Ann), Nicolya Porter and a host of relatives and friends.
