Carroll Thomas Andrews, 79, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Tommy,” and his immediate siblings as “Bubba,” passed away on December 6, 2024, at his residence in Normangee, Texas. He was the son of proud parents, Robert Wiley “Dick,” Sr. and Lawanda Ruth Lynch Andrews, and first saw the light of day in Houston, Texas on December 18, 1944.
Tommy proudly served in the Army National Guard, the Texas Department of Corrections, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He served alongside individuals that became lifelong friends. He enjoyed telling stories about his time with the Department of Public Safety. Upon leaving the Texas DPS, he joined his in-laws, James and Vera Standley, at the iconic Corral Cafe on I-45 in Madisonville, Texas, where he worked side by side with his wife, Janet. He later returned to work for the State of Texas and retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Over the course of his life, Tommy developed many passions that included woodworking and activities that involved being in the great outdoors. Both the lake and the landscape at Brushy brought Tommy great peace. This was where Tommy was most comfortable. He rarely passed up an opportunity to cast a line or focus his sights on a beautiful buck. He also enjoyed boating and camping trips with family and friends. He loved his little orange Kubota tractor and spent hours on jobs at the lake and Brushy.
Tommy was a man who held integrity in high regard. He was a man of character that could always be counted on for whatever help was needed. He was a genuine authentic man who was gifted with a serious disposition that aged into a thing to be admired. Tommy adored his family, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, as he cherished every moment with them. He will be dearly missed by all those who were blessed to know him.
