Memorial services for Cecil Harper, Jr., age 70, of Bedias, Texas, were held 2 P.M., Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Madisonville. Pastor Cindy Clark officiated the service.
Cecil Odell Harper, Jr. was born December 20, 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Cecil Odell, Sr. & Lois (Tanner) Harper. He had received a PhD in American History and worked as college professor at Lone Star College. Dr. Harper was active in the Texas Historical Society, as well as, National History Day. He also served as the college liaison for Nimitz High School in Aldine. Dr. Harper had lived in Bedias for the past four years, coming from Houston and was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Madisonville. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and raising goats, llamas and pigs on his farm.
Dr. Harper passed away January 2, 2019 in Bryan, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister, Kathy Richardson. Surviving family members include wife, Alice Diane Smith of Bedias; sons, Barry Harper of Bedias and Bryce Harper (Katie) of Spring; daughters, Alyssa Molina (Juan) of Sealy, Amanda Harper of Spring and Kimberlee Ball (Sam) of Spring; step-son, Zach Smith (Mylan Phung) of Eastland; brother, Ricky Harper (Debbie Ferris) of McKinney and sister, Debbie Morse of The Woodlands. Dr. Harper is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville was entrusted with arrangements.
