Curlie David Wright, Jr.

Funeral services honoring Curlie Wright will be held at the Madisonville Funeral Home at 10:30am, Saturday, September 10, 2022, 1511 East Main Street (State Highway 21), Madisonville, Texas 77864.  Burial will follow in Madisonville Cemetery.

Curlie David Wright Jr blessed us with his presence from February 1, 1948, to August 28, 2022. The memories shared will be that of a lifetime.

Curlie Wright had a smile that lit up every room. His strong, tenacious, and courageous spirit was displayed at an early age. For example, in 1966, he became one of the first five African Americans to exercise his freedom of choice by leaving the comforts of Mary C. Womack High School (an all-black school) and accept the challenge of integrating the all-white Longview High School, a decision he made without consulting his parents. True to form, he was compelled to proudly serve his country in the United States Airforce as an Intercept Operator and Air Traffic Controller.

Curlie Wright was very artistic. He enjoyed drawing, singing, crafting sticks, gardening, raising farm animals, watching westerns, and sharing very captivating history or life lessons.

Wife: Judy; Children: Wayne, Darcy, Mleeka Tanisha, & Miesha; Grandchildren: Lisa, Whitney, Devarick, Markellus, Taiwan, Darnasia, Chavonte, Micah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Devyn, Taleiah, Elijah, Noah, Alicia, Ashlee, Quincee, Serenity; Great-grand-children: Aliyah, Kaia, Leilani, Jaida, Auri, Alice, Osiris, Mya, Eli, Levi, Hailee, Lauren, Jenny , Siblings: Elsie, Mary, Levi, James; A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
