Demita Nannette Sweet

Demita Nannette Sweet was born July 13, 1964, in Madisonville, Texas, to the union of the late Eddie L. Mason, Sr. and Gladys M. Spivey Mason. Her formative years were spent in the Madisonville Community, where she gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She was a faithful and active member of the Lakeview Baptist Church until she moved to Houston, Texas where she attended Brookhollow Baptist Church.

She entered into Holy Matrimony in 2010 to Carl Sweet whom she loved dearly.

Demita attended her early years of school in Madisonville ISD. Upon graduating, she attended Prairie View A&M University in which she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a Masters Degree in Reading and earned her Principal’s Certification. She had a true passion for educating children, especially in the area of reading. She accumulated a total of 32 years of teaching and taught in Waller ISD, Cypress Fairbanks ISD and Alief ISD in which she retired in 2017.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie L. Mason. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Carl Sweet (Houston); brother, Eddie Mason, Jr. (Madisonville); brother, Lawrence Mason (Colorado); sister, Reva Reeves (Dallas); aunt, Priscilla Yell (Waller); aunt, Aneath Pope (Glidden); aunt, Lena Spivey (Sugarland); aunt, Irene Body and Gladys Burgess (Colorado); uncle, John Spivey (Sugarland); nieces, Keta Mason (Conroe), Courtney Mason (Huntsville), Ashley Johnson (Iola); nephews, Eddie Mason III (Bryan), Eddie Mason IV (Madisonville), E-Quantay (Bryan); cousins: Gwendolyn Sandles (Richmond), Stephanie {Ernest} Alexander (Waller), Jeremy {Kateika} Spivey (Houston), Jonathan {LaQuesha} Spivey (Houston), Jackie {Donna} Wilkins (Van Alstyne), Ricky Wilkins (Hutto), Christopher Yell (Houston), Talya Pope (Florida), Alton {Danielle} Pope (Leander), Jacquline Nelms (Colorado); special great nephew, Chance Pryor (Conroe) and a host of great nieces, nephews & family friends.

She was preceded in death by: Hubert Mason (brother), John Spivey II (grandfather), Maebell Winn Spivey (grandmother), Austin Mason (nephew), Clara Sandles (aunt), Serena Wilkins (aunt), Jackie Wilkins (uncle), Eddie Yell (uncle) & Alvin Pope (uncle).

Homegoing services for Demita will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Madisonville, Texas. Live streaming services will be available through the First Baptist Church website, www.madisonvillefbc.org. Interment will be in West End Cemetery. A dinner will be held at the Kimbro Convention Center adjacent to the church in Madisonville. A time of visitation will be held Saturday from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon at the church prior to the service.

At the request of the Sweet family, face masks are required at the service and prior to dinner at the Kimbro Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
