Dr. Robert Clark Dorris, at the age of 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2019 in Madison County, Texas. He was a loved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Friend and Dentist.
Dr. Robert Dorris "Rob" was born in El Paso, Texas to Edwin Clark Dorris and Naomi Kizer Dorris on April 21, 1938. He attended San Angelo High School, Angelo State University and the University of Texas Dental branch in Houston, Texas. After graduating from dental school in 1963 he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served his country during Vietnam for 3 years while stationed in Okinawa where he earned the rank of Captain and was also awarded an Outstanding Unit Award.
Upon discharge, he began his dental career in Houston where he practiced for 36 years. He and his wife, Mary, relocated to North Zulch/Madisonville where they had a brief retirement before purchasing a dental practice. He proudly practiced there for 15 years along side of his devoted and cherished staff and patients. He was a well respected and loved member of the Madisonville community.
Robert was a former board member of the Oak Ridge Country Club, a charter member of the Madison County Arts Council and a board member of the Texas State of Board of Dental Examiners. Robert and Mary are devout Christians and have been very active members of the Sand Prairie Baptist Church.
Robert has always enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle. Fishing, hunting, golf, tennis and ranching (always naming his cows) were among his favorite activities, as well as piloting his airplanes.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Dorris of 29 years; sons, Robert (Rad) Dorris, wife Linda, of Granbury and Eric Dorris, wife Jill, of Austin; brother, Richard Dorris, wife Suzanne, of San Angelo; sister Patricia Richey of Dallas and sisters-in-law, Martha Dorris and Trish Mendez (Ray). He was preceded in death by both of his parents and brother, David Dorris. Robert is also survived by grandchildren, Hanna, Jordan and Ava Dorris, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27th at 11 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas. Rev. Larry Andrews and Rev. Ryan Dansby will officiate the service; Dr. Max Mays will present the eulogy. Ivan Linebaugh, Terry Pope, Dean Lewis, Ray Mendez, Victor Doubrovski and Matthew Richey will honorably be the pallbearers. Interment will be in the Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch, Texas. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Oak Ridge Country Club in Madisonville. The Dorris family will receive friends Friday, April 26th from 6-8 P.M. at the Madisonville Funeral Home.
