A time of visitation will take place Tuesday, June 11th, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
The late, great, Eddie Herman Darter was born May 27th, 1948, in Madisonville, Texas to Burt Oliver Darter and Velma Louise McWhorter. He spent his childhood in North Zulch with his sisters, Bettie Jo Stroud Faust and Tommie Dee Gafford. Ed graduated from NZHS in 1966, as "Most Likely to Succeed" and "Mr. Senior Class." Upon attending Tyler Junior College to study in 1967, he was momentarily distracted from his schooling to meet his future lifelong sweetheart, Carla Ann Beall, "Carla Sue!" (1947-2018). They were married on August 25, 1968, in Rusk County, Texas. In 1971, he was blessed with a daughter, Kristi Rene. In 2003, he was given a granddaughter, Harlee Grace, and he proudly served them both as a devoted and remarkable father.
Ed was a true renaissance man, a jack-of-all-trades. His careers and interests were always developing, and he enjoyed everything life had to offer. He worked as a "Mud Logger" in the oil field several times, a police officer and detective, and a robotics engineer. He most recently worked for Madison County, where he took pleasure in regularly seeing the members of his community and began a community garden. Ed also served in the U.S. Army and understood the importance of American freedom. He'd try -and most likely perfect - anything that caught his eye. He was a skilled outdoorsman, woodworker, leatherworker, gardener, chef, engineer, photographer, artist, scholar and storyteller. Other pastimes included listening to his music a bit too loudly, loving on a baby (with two legs or four), and collecting rocks and arrowheads.
Ed believed in the power of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, Folgers Colombian, and Fine Virginia Tobacco. He was quick witted and a tad mischievous. His eyes held a sparkle that couldn't be missed. He lived with a passion for all the truly good things in life: fresh air, sunshine, and people he loved. He quite enjoyed a good story, and valued every chance to visit with a friend. He was hardworking and determined, a man with calloused hands and a soft heart. Ed was balanced, steady, and the foundation of his family.
He was a true man of God, and lived his life as such.
Ed will be dearly missed by his surviving family, daughters, Kristi Rene Darter and Harlee Grace Hutchinson (Landen Jackson); his beloved nieces and nephew; all of his extended family; and some amazing friends. We will cherish his memory, guidance, and love forever. We rejoice in knowing Ed has been reunited with his Heavenly Father, and his true love.
