Homegoing services for Emma Lee Simmons will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery.

Sister Emma Lee (Johnson) Simmons was born on February 9, 1931 to Ira Johnson, Sr. & Savannah Brown Davis in Madisonville, Texas. Emma was the second child out of eleven, seven boys and four girls. She received her formal education from Marian Anderson High School. She accepted Christ at an early age. Her spiritual journey started out at Sweet Zion Baptist Church. Then the family joined Freedom Baptist with the final destination ending up at Lake View Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charleton Greene. There she served on the usher board.

Sister Simmons worked for Allee Sewing Factory for twenty-five years, Ralston Purina-Monterey Mushroom for seventeen years and retired with more than fifteen years as a caretaker for Home Health Care services.

Emma Simmons departed this life on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Savannah; her husband, Edward Simmons and siblings, Eugene, Ira, Jr., Osby, Andrew, Frank, Rufus, Dorothy, Frederick, Avery and Omeka. Emma leaves to cherish her memory four children, Robert (Mary) Sandles of Houston, Linda (Robert) Lee of Huntsville, Wilma Velma Randle of Madisonville and Venise (Jessie) McGowan of Spring; two sisters, Carrie Franklin and Ella Turner and one brother, Rev. Dee Farris Johnson (Penelope). She also leaves eleven grandchildren, Sharonda Green, Lisa (Orrick) Sidney, Deshandra (Quincy) Jones, Portia (Cheryl) Outing, Oliver (Tameka) Owens, Yolanda (Gus) Jones, Ashaki Randle, James (Sara) Randle, Terrace A. McGowan, Jasmine (Kelbee) Oliphant, Bryson McGowan and Lakita Williams; great-grandchildren, Khadijah Johnson, Nia Jones, Xandra Outing, Makayla Outing, Devlin Owens, Tristan Sinville, Keelan Jones, Ashli Jones, DeMarcus Ross, Damien Whaley, Jamaniesha Whaley, Thomas Roundtree, Tyrenzo Roundtree, LaKendra Randle, JaNavia Randle, James Randle, Jr., Jaydon Randle, Ashton Randle, Kendall Randle, Kylee Oliphant, Jaxen McKinnis and Baylie Edward, as well as a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
