Emma “Jackie” Rogers is tickling the ivories today in Heaven’s Angel Band! Born August 19, 1948, to parents Jack and Josie Buckhaults in Huntsville, she grew up a “Midway girl” surrounded by the wonderful music that molded her into the exceptional musician she became! She left this world on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, after battling congestive heart failure. With her mind restored, she’s no longer short of breath or suffering from painful knees. She is FREE AT LAST!
Marrying Travis Rogers in 1967, the two headed for the bright lights of Houston to find success, and a few years later, began raising a daughter, Traci Rogers (Earl). Jackie went on to pursue clerical work in the medical field for more than twenty-five years. She could work any position in the office she managed for eighteen years at the Medical Center Ear Nose and Throat in Houston’s prestigious Texas Medical Center. In addition, Travis and Jackie enjoyed travelling all over the US in their RV. Once Jackie retired and widowed in 2004, she returned to Madisonville full time. But retirement and widowhood didn’t deter Jackie!
Pastors Terry and Martha Bryant of Midway’s New Life Tabernacle Church helped to rekindle Jackie’s friendships with other congregants. “We’d load up in the van, with Terry driving, and we’d sing the whole way there, stop and eat, and sing some more! It was the time of my life spreading The Word! Sometimes we didn’t get home until 2 am, but that was OK with me!” she said. Jackie, Martha, Elvis Kelly, Rhenda and Rhonda would “raise the roof in perfect harmony!” she said.
While growing up in Midway, she knew of a handsome fellow who wore a ducktail haircut who rode her father’s school bus route. She was too young and much too shy to approach him. Fast forward 50 years, and they finally approached! Folks in Madisonville rarely saw Jackie without Bruce Karber and vice versa! They enjoyed a strong, spirit-filled relationship! They both loved traveling and they both loved the music in Branson, Missouri! Bruce liked playing a trivia music game with mother wherein, he still says, he could never stump her memory of lyrics and musicians! When they weren’t at church or a musical event, it was always Saturday night music at her house on RFDTV!
Jackie was preceded in death by parents Jack and Josie Marshall-Buckhaults; husband, Travis Elmore Rogers; and nephew, Darrel Boyd Rogers.
She is survived by sister, JoNell Farrar; daughter, Traci Rogers-Earl; nieces, Montie Kay Krumnow-Marvin, Kristi Lynn Krumnow-Paisley, and Vickie Lynn Rogers-Webb; and nephew, Russell Rogers. Her memory will be cherished by many other extended family and loving friends.
