Frances Jo Mcdonald

Frances Jo McDonald was born on October 4, 1924 in Normangee, Texas, one of seven children. Her parents were Isaac “Dee” & Beula Rebecca (Ply) Carter. Affectionately known as “Jo”, she was raised in Normangee and graduated from Normangee High School. Following high school, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston Teacher’s College and taught for Houston I.S.D. for approximately thirty-nine years. Most of that time was spent teaching Kindergarten. This was probably as a result of her deep love for children. Jo married Wilson McDonald and together, they had three sons: James, Charles & Louis. Jo had lived most of her life in Houston, having moved there in 1953, and was a faithful member of the West Houston Church of Christ.

If ever anyone had a green thumb, it had to be Jo! She loved gardening and sharing her lovely flowers with friends and family alike. Jo also enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was well known for her famous German Chocolate cakes, fried chicken and fruit cake cookies. When her boys were younger, Jo sewed most of their shirts. She also loved shopping and sharing her treasures with others.

Jo passed away on January 2, 2018 in Cypress, Texas at ninety-three years of age. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Wilson McDonald; son, James McDonald; sisters, Ellene Carter, Osie Lee (Carter) Gustavus, Pollie (Carter) Malone, Beula Dee (Carter) George, Johnnye (Carter) Devereaux and brother, Isaac Carter. Surviving family members include sons, Charles McDonald & wife, Linda, of Kingwood and Louis McDonald & wife, Paula, of Houston; grandchildren, Amanda Joy Winton, Evan Douglas McDonald, Mike McDonald, Kevin McDonald, Rob McDonald, Aaron Jacobs & Ashley Fraser and great grandchildren, Sydney, Jordan & Eli Winton and Owen & Nora McDonald.
