Jerri Jayne Barnett was born November 3, 1936, to Reginald Carle & Mary Katherine (Payne) Nolley. Her roots in Madison County run deep. Jerri was the granddaughter of Robert Arthur & Cora Belle (Zulch) Payne, and the great-granddaughter of Julius & Cora Belle Zulch.
The town of North Zulch was named for Julius Zulch, Sr., born in Hassel Castle, Germany (January 1832), married to Martha Martin Zulch. Thus, Jerri might be considered “North Zulch Royalty!”
Jerri’s grandfather on her mother’s side, Robert Arthur Payne, was the son of Thomas and Nancy Alice Franklin Payne, born in the 1860’s. Robert Arthur Payne also served as the sheriff of Madison County for two terms between 1900-1910.
Jerri was a valued member and staff of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years. She passed away October 4, 2019. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and son, Ricky Green. Her surviving family includes sons, Timothy Green and Ronnie Barnett. Jerri is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren living in the Houston, Bryan and Austin areas of Texas.
A celebration of Jerri’s life will be held 1 P.M., Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Willowhole Chapel near North Zulch. A graveside will follow at 2 P.M. in the Willowhole Cemetery, adjacent to the chapel.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas.
