Joe Spikes of Normangee, Texas, was born to Roger Ollie Spikes and Pearl Colasty Hawkins in Normangee, Texas, on August 23, 1935. Joe was one of eight children. He passed away in Normangee, Texas, on October 26, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Irene Williamson, Violet Watson, Pearl Lambert, Marie Holliday, Nelda Hodges, and Hazel Smith; two daughters, Teresa Bennett and Sonya Gierisch; and two great-granddaughters, Evelyn Herrington and Raylan Blake Fairbanks. Joe is survived by his wife, Patricia Spikes; brother, Kenneth Spikes; three children, Kelly Spikes (Cheryl), Lamar Spikes (Sondra), and Polly Stewart (Nathan); sixteen grandchildren, Skyler, Kelly Brooke, Jaclyn, Kelsey, Stormy, Adelyn, Megan, Melanie, Macy, Madisen, Star, Johnny III, JamesGuy, JoeGavyn, England, and Pollyanna, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Joe was an alumnus of Normangee High School in Normangee, Texas and had retired from Texas A&M as a carpenter. He enjoyed outdoor activities especially hunting, gardening, fishing, and working with his animals. He liked playing the fiddle and listening to bluegrass gospel music. An active member of The Pentecostals of Franklin, Joe found no greater joy in this life than knowing his children and grandchildren walked in truth.
Madisonville Funeral Home will host the visitation and funeral service. Visitation will be Thursday, October 29, from 5 P.M., to 7 P.M. The funeral service will begin on Friday, October 30 at 11 A.M., and burial will follow at Wealthy Cemetery in Normangee, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Skyler Bennett, Kelsey Spikes, Stormy Spikes, Johnny Gierish III, JamesGuy Gierish, and JoeGavyn Gierish. Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Watson, Curtis Hodges, Chris Loon, Kenton Spikes, Rusty Smith and Lance Smith.
Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
