John Stanley Lummus, affectionately known to family and friends as "Bill," was a longtime resident of Madisonville, Texas. He was born to John and Zora Lee Lummus on December 11, 1940 in Mexia, Texas, and passed away on June 9, 2024.
To say that Bill enjoyed the outdoors was an understatement. It was his favorite place to be. You could often find him running trotlines or juglines with the hopes of landing his next big set of "ole whiskers." He was a real hoot and a "one of a kind" who was a joy to be around. That said, Bill was never bashful if he had something to say and could be quite stubborn and set in his ways. One of his greatest passions was working on old cars. Bill was a genius under the hood and had a mechanical mind. More than anything else, Bill adored his family and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Zora Lee Lummus; brother, JW Lummus; and three sisters, Florence May Simmons, Wanda Jean Harper, and Cora Lummus. He is survived by his son, Duane Lummus and wife, LeeAnn of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Austin Drake and Tori Ellane Lummus; and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
