John Elliott Williams, Jr.

John Elliott Williams, Jr. was the son of the late John Elliott Williams, Sr. and Pauleta Louise (Anderson) Williams. John was better known to his family and friends as “J.E.” He was born in Mexia, Texas on December 18, 1923 where he attended school and graduated from Dunbar High School. Upon his graduation from high school, he entered Prairie View A & M University where he majored in History. He was drafted out of college into the U.S. Army during World War II and served from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. He served in New Guinea, The Philippine Islands and Manila.

After the war, John returned to college and earned his college degree in History from Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. He then returned to Prairie View A & M University and did post graduate work in History and Political Science.

After living many years in Corpus Christi, Texas, John moved to Los Angeles, California where he resided for over fifty years. He was employed in the Health Care Industry as a Medical Supply Distributor for the county of Los Angeles where he retired. In 2009, he moved to Madisonville, Texas to be near family. He was a member of the Lake View Baptist Church in Madisonville.

John lived in Madisonville Manor for several years. He later entered Riverwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and lived there for two years.

John never met a stranger and stayed in contact with his relative and friends. He loved to read, study and discuss History, and loved to travel.

John passed away on December 20, 2017 in Madisonville. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of many years, Earlee; twin sons; three brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted sister, Biva Louise Byrd of Madisonville; sister-in-law, Gloria Williams of Columbia, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing services for John will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the Lake View Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. Rev. Charleton Green will officiate the service.
