Lela Nell Ivey

December 22, 1940 — December 4, 2024

Midway, Texas

Lela Nell Ivey peacefully departed this life on December 4, 2024, in Crockett, Texas, at the age of 83. Lela was born on December 22, 1940, in Madisonville, Texas, to Charlie Thomas and Carmen (Whittington) Jett. She was one of three daughters, growing up in the warm embrace of a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of love and compassion.

On May 31, 1958, Lela married her childhood sweetheart, Samuel "Sam" Ivey, and together they embarked on countless adventures across the United States, following Sam’s career. Regardless of where life led them, Lela's heart remained anchored in family. After Sam's retirement, they settled in Riverside, Texas, to be near their daughter, Denise, creating a loving home filled with laughter and kindness.

Lela was known for her vibrant spirit and her love for life's simple pleasures. She found joy in playing cards, getting her hair styled, and most importantly, in caring for her family. Her soft spot for cats led her to open her home to many furry friends, providing them with a loving sanctuary. Lela was a devoted member of the Hwy. 90 Church of Christ, where she shared her faith and kindness with her community.

Preceded in death by her parents and her beloved daughters, Jetta Ivey and Denise Smotek, Lela will be remembered with deep affection by her devoted husband, Samuel Ivey; her sisters, Katherine and Ann; son-in-law, Edward Smotek; grandson, Justin Smotek (and wife Ashlynn); niece, Letha Ann; and numerous extended family and special friends.

To celebrate Lela's rich life and the love she shared, family and friends are invited to gather for a funeral service on December 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 1:00 PM until the service begins, allowing loved ones to share their memories and express their condolences. Following the service, Lela will be laid to rest in Midway Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Bobby Ray Drake, Darrell Drake, Ernest Ivey, Justin Smotek, Edward Smotek, Danny Coleman
