Maria Antonieta "Toni" Moreno

Services will be held for Maria Antonieta "Toni" Moreno at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1205 East Main St., Madisonville, Texas at 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 29th. A viewing/visiting time will precede the services from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. Toni died on January 26, 2022, at age ninety-four, in Houston, Texas.

Toni was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Ortiz and Maria de los Angeles Moreno Ortiz and by her sisters, Maria Conception and Maria de los Angeles; by her husband, Arturo Hernandez Moreno; two daughters, who died in infancy, Rosa Maria and Maria de los Angeles, and granddaughter, Bethany Lynnette Wieske Gonzales-Baker.

Toni is survived by eleven daughters, Rosemary Moreno Holt and husband, Arthur, Jane Moreno Young and husband, Mark, Lupita Moreno Rivera and husband, Luis, Antonietta Moreno Alanis (Toni), Christine Moreno Stevens, Juliet Moreno Cervantes, Beatriz Moreno Dryden and husband, Joseph, Mary Ann Moreno Neal and husband, Michael, Irene Moreno Diaz, Laura Moreno Thompson and husband, James, and Lillian Moreno; one son, Arthur Anthony Moreno and wife, Mary Jane, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Toni was born October 4, 1927 in Dallas, Texas of a well-established photographer. She lived in Dallas, Texas until she was six years old. At the age of six her family moved to Monterey, Mexico where her father owned and operated a photography studio. Toni worked in that studio with her father; she started working at the age of eleven and a half years old after she had graduated from an all-girls school. She worked there until her marriage on December 10, 1945, to Arturo Hernandez "Art" Moreno. She and her new husband lived in Monterey, Mexico. In 1946, her first born daughter died at the age of four months of an undefined illness. In 1947, the second child born was killed as an infant in an explosion of their home. Toni was severely burned in that explosion, she carried scars from that accident throughout the rest of her life.

In 1949, the family moved to Mission, Texas where he husband worked as a dental technician. Her husband's employment moved the family from Corpus Christi, Texas to Harlingen, Texas where she and her husband joined and were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1962, she and her family moved to Houston, Texas where they lived in various homes.

Her husband, Art, died January 13,1995 in Houston, Texas. Toni moved to Madisonville, Texas in June of that year.

While living in Madisonville, she volunteered to work in the gift shop of the Madisonville Hospital. She volunteered there until the gift shop was closed in late 2019. In May 2021, Toni moved to Houston to live with her daughter, Lillian. She died there January 26, 2022.

Because of recent COVID virus concerns facial masks covering the nose and mouth will be required of all visitors.
