Mark Allen McVey, age 59, made his grand entrance into the world on September 16, 1964, in Conroe, Texas to Marvin Monroe and Ruth Alice Dell (Morgan) McVey and made a more glorious entrance into eternity on August 21, 2024.
Mark will be fondly remembered as a man who was passionate about fishing and hunting, in that order. He received great joy as he held his rod and reel while navigating the waters in search of his next big catch, or as he looked down the scope of his rifle deciding when to pull the trigger. He was also keenly aware of his surroundings, which often led to stops on the side of the road to pick up things that others had lost or left behind. The outdoors was a comfortable place for Mark, and it was not uncommon to find him carefully tending his garden if fishing and hunting were not an option.
Mark lived a life of service to others in many forms. He retired from the Texas Department of Corrections after an almost twenty-year tenure, and he exercised extreme generosity to those around him, whether he knew them or not. If Mark observed a need, it was his instant ambition to meet that need. This often resulted in giving the last of what he had in his pockets to the benefit of someone else. He was there for his friends and family at the drop of a hat.
Mark's loving expressions toward others were carried out in authenticity and the result of a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Mark loved the Lord dearly and some of his happiest moments were spent serving his church at vacation bible school or attending revivals. His life was characterized by service and sacrifice, as the Lord used him as an instrument of His righteousness to reach into the lives of those around him.
Mark Allen McVey was preceded in death by both parents, Marvin and Ruth McVey; his brothers, David and Paul McVey and nephew, Jeremy McVey.
Those left to cherish Mark’s memory are his brothers, Mike McVey (Diane) of Madisonville and Donnie McVey (Nancy) of Conroe. He is also survived by his sister, Melinda Green (Mark) of Flynn; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
