Mary Jane "Janie" Swift

A public visitation will be held for Mary Jane “Janie” Swift on Friday, July 3, 2020 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville. A graveside service is set for 2 p.m. on the same day at Bedias Baptist Cemetery in Bedias. Burial will follow the service.

Mary Jane was born on October 24, 1940 in Madisonville, TX to Bill and Mamie Adams. They later moved to Houston where Mary Jane, also known as “Janie”, attended San Jacinto High School and was on the Golden Gauchos Drill Team for three years.

She married John Craig Swift and, together, they owned and operated two electric businesses, the first one in Houston and the second one in Madisonville. Janie also worked for Judge Fite in Madisonville for several years as his assistant. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, painting and reading. While living in Madisonville, Janie attended a Church of Christ. In later life, she devoted all of her time and energy as a caregiver to her mother and husband.

“Janie” was preceded in death by her parents. She passed on June 29, 2020 at her home in Longview, TX, surrounded by her family. She was 79. Her surviving family includes her husband, John Craig Swift of Longview; her son and daughter-in-law, Trenton and Becky Coon of Hallsville, TX; a sister, Linda Whipple of Longview; grandchildren, Chelsey Coon and Brenton Coon; great-granddaughters, Darcie and Cadence; niece, Heidi; nephew, Bracey; great nieces, Agea and Alicia; great nephew Waylon and a great, great-grandson.

The Swift family would like to thank Lifecare Hospice of Longview, Texas; nurse Crystal and caregiver Tyree.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
