Melvin was born to Eugene and Winnie Agnes Hahn on October 3, 1940, in Alto, Texas and was raised in Cherokee County. Growing up, Melvin also spent many summers in North Zulch, Texas with his family. He graduated from Alto High School and then attended business college. It was there that he met the love of his life, Geraldine “Jeri” Hahn. They were married on February 24, 1962, and they shared a happy forty-eight years of marriage. They cherished their family, which included two wonderful sons.
Melvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who raised his family in Madisonville, Texas. He was a member of Madisonville First Baptist Church, where he spent over forty years teaching a children’s Sunday School class. He worked for many years, and eventually retired as a manager of a service station. Melvin had a servant’s heart. He spent time in the 1970s serving as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Madisonville. He was a kind and loving friend to many and would always welcome you with a smile and a hug. He was often referred to as, “the man with the stick,” because whenever you saw him, he was using his favorite walking stick. Melvin had a passion for hunting and fishing, but most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved the country life and loved making and sharing memories at his home.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Winnie Hahn and wife Geraldine "Jeri" Hahn; brother, Cecil Hahn; and sisters, Margie Yohman and Glaydene Seagle.
