Minnie Sue "Baby Jane" (Reynolds) Bishop

Minnie Sue “Baby Jane” (Reynolds) Bishop was born July 3, 1936 in Patroon, Shelby County, Texas. She was the youngest child of William Christopher “Bill” Reynolds and Minnie Elizabeth Curry. On her maternal side she was a third generation Texan, and on her paternal side she was of the fourth generation born in Texas. Minnie’s family called her by her nickname, “Baby Jane”, from a very young age. She was Jane from then on. Jane was a lifelong Baptist.

She lived in Shelby County until her marriage to Walter Bishop. They were married on December 13, 1953. She met Walter while he was studying at East Texas Baptist College. One of Walter’s classmates, Rev. Douglas Fincher, officiated at their wedding. After Walter joined the USMC they moved to California, where their first son, Tommy, was born. In early 1956, the family moved back to East Texas. Their son, Wayne, and daughter, Sandy, were born in Marshall, Texas. Jane was a stay at home mother when the children were young. After the family moved to Richardson, Texas in 1969, she worked at a dry cleaners and was the cook at a Richardson day school.

Jane and Walter moved to Madisonville, Texas in 1989. She worked for several years in home healthcare and was well liked by her clients.

She spent her last two years living in Huntsville.

Jane always had a flower garden, which she enjoyed tending. She was also a wonderful cook. For many years she canned her own vegetables, made jellies and preserves and delicious dill pickles. The family always looked forward to her biscuits and Thanksgiving dinners. She also adored her many pet doggies.

Jane was a devoted wife to Walter for forty-five years and dear mother to her children. She was happy to become “Granny” to her four grandchildren and later to six great-grandchildren. There are two more great grandchildren on the way.

Jane is survived by daughter, Sandra Bishop; son & daughter-in-law, Tommy & Juanita Bishop; granddaughter, Amanda Bishop; grandsons and their wives, Christopher & Christina Reed, Aaron & Crystal Bishop and Michael & Maria Bishop and great-grandsons, Damian & Waylon Reed, Jordan McCord and Elliot & Dillon Bishop. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by father, Bill Reynolds (1972); mother, Minnie Reynolds (1998); husband, Walter Bishop (1998); brother, Billy Reynolds (2001); sister, Marie Windham (2009); great-grandson, Jaydon Reed (2012); brother, Otis Reynolds (2013) and son, Wayne Bishop (2015).
