Patricia Rose (Drews) Killen, affectionately known as "Pat," was born on Nov. 14, 1941, in Houston, Texas, to Walter and Cathryn Drews. She went to be with our Lord on June 17, 2024, at 82 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepbrother, William Freeman; sister, Mildred Barfield; and half-sisters, Cheryl Dingas and Penny Todd.
Pat's love for her family was unwavering. She is survived by her adoring husband, Donald L. Killen Jr., and their three sons, Daniel, David, and Drew (Jennifer) Killen. Survivors also include her granddaughters, Morgan (Austin) Hoff, Melanie Killen, and Meredith Killen, who all held a special place in her heart. Her family extended beyond her immediate relatives including half-brother, Preston (Sally) Hunt; stepbrother, Kenneth Hunt; many nieces and nephews; and her long-time friend, Mona Mahaffey. Pat's love for her family was a testament to her character.
Pat graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Don Killen, on Oct. 28, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston. She worked in the banking industry for many years before entering the food service industry. She worked as a cafeteria manager in Clear Creek ISD for sixteen years. Loving the country lifestyle, she and Don retired and built their home in Normangee. Pat's retirement didn't get her out of the kitchen. She loved cooking and canning her home-grown vegetables. Pat was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Zulch. She joined a local quilting group called "The Busy Bees." Pat enjoyed going to their quilting retreats. She met lifelong friends Shirley, Joy, and JP when she joined the Normangee Extension Education Club in 1999.
Always willing to help others in need, she volunteered at the Normangee Food Pantry. Pat enjoyed playing cards. She attended a monthly card game with her friends for over twenty years.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 20, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., and a service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 5084 Church Ln, North Zulch, Texas 77872.
