Rufus Dean Johnson, Sr.

Homegoing services for Rufus Dean Johnson, Sr., age 76, will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born June 4, 1944 in Madisonville, Texas to parents, Ira Johnson and Savannah (Brown) Johnson. He worked as a corrections officer for T.D.C.J. and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Madisonville and was a “legendary” barber there for fifty-five years. He was also a deacon at the Lake-view Missionary Baptist Church for many years.

He and Pearline Wheaton were married on October 20, 1966 and were married for fifty-four years before his death.

Mr. Johnson passed away December 8, 2020 in Madisonville. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Ira and Savannah Johnson; brothers, Eugene, Ira, Jr., Frank, Osby "Buck" and Andrew Lee Johnson and sister, Dorothy Christopher. Surviving family includes wife, Pearline Johnson of Madisonville; son, Rufus Johnson, Jr. (Valerie) of Madisonville ; daughters, Sharon Johnson of Bryan & Jennifer Johnson of Madisonville; brother, Rev. Defarris Johnson (Pinellafie) of Madisonville; sisters, Emma Simmons, Carrie Franklin & Ella Mae Turner, all of Madisonville; a special niece, Yolanda "YoYo" Whaley and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
