Terry Mark Green

September 11, 1952 — December 26, 2020

Terry Mark Green

Terry Green fought a long, hard battle with Covid19, and received ultimate healing through the love of Jesus Christ on December 26, 2020. Terry was born September 11, 1952, in Freeport, Texas. He spent a happy, “Leave It to Beaver” childhood as he liked to call it, in Angleton, Texas. After his dad retired, the family moved back home and Terry finished his education at Normangee.

Terry was the son of Odell Terrell and Hattie Rae (Kessner) Green, and was preceded in death by his father, his sister, Nancy, and his baby boy.

When he became ill, Terry made his wishes known about his care, making it clear that he was not afraid because of his relationship with the Lord. Terry was a true believer and knew in his heart he was heaven bound. Terry was a fun loving jokester who got a giggle out of saying inappropriate things just to get a reaction! He had a quick wit, a sharp mind and a sense of pride and duty to his neighbors. He was a volunteer firefighter for Flynn for many years and also loved taking care of his community by mowing anything that didn’t move.

Terry loved to drive and was a cross country trucker in his younger days and still drove part time delivering cars for several dealerships in Fairfield, Texas. Terry worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, attaining the rank of Captain and retired in 2002. One of his favorite things was reminiscing about his trucking days and telling “war stories” about working in the prison, especially his unique perspective on his involvement with executions. After retirement, Terry maintained several cemeteries, ran and was elected Justice of the Peace for Leon County, and was Jail Administrator for Bandera County Sheriff’s Office.

Terry had a gift of making friends quickly with his warm smile and brash sense of humor and will be sorely missed by those who had the good fortune to know him.

Terry is survived by his mother, Hattie Rae; his loving wife, Cherie; his eldest son, Mark and wife, Melinda; his son Matt and wife, Tara; his daughter, Molly Schmidt and husband, Joe and his stepson, Clay Littlejohn and wife, Kelli. Terry is also survived by his first wife, Brenda Green, the mother of his children, who he totally credited with raising them as the good humans they turned out to be.

Papa T is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Christine Yates (Brian), Mark Green Jr., Zachary Overby (Erica), Matthew McVey, Ryan Green, Megan Green, Jacob Schmidt, Trent Schmidt and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Owen Yates.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clear Creek Cemetery Association: P.O. Box 104, Flynn, Texas 77855.
