Tommy Poe, 78, passed away August 6, 2022 in Bryan, Texas following an extended illness. A memorial service honoring his life will be held 5 P.M., Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Bro. Dennis Ivey will officiate the service. A time of visitation and fellowship will take place prior to the service from 4 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the funeral home.
Thomas Allen Poe, Jr. was born August 20, 1943 in Bryan, Texas to Thomas Allen, Sr. & Ruby (Pyle) Poe. He was raised in Bedias and graduated with both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education from Sam Houston State University. During Tommy's high school and college years, he stood out as an exceptional basketball player. Following graduation, Tommy embarked on his forty-one year career as an educator, first as a teacher and coach, advancing to administration as a Principal and Superintendent, and finally retiring as an Executive Director for the Education Service Center for Region Six. During that time, Tommy was also a mentor to many current educators and administrators.
In his free time, Tommy enjoyed taking care of his yard and clearing land, wearing his straw hat that most people recognized him in. He was a long standing member of Bedias Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Bedias, Texas.
Tommy was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother Rodney Poe and half-sister, Annie Ruth Reiland, as well as his grandparents.
Surviving family members include loving wife, Kathleen Poe of Bedias; son, Trae Poe & wife, Ann of Madisonville; daughter, Lisa Poe of Bedias; grandchildren, Clint Manning & wife, Maci, Colton Manning, Caden Miller, Kyle Poe, Zach Poe and Abby Poe and great-grandchildren, Brantlee and Maddie Manning. Tommy is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bedias Baptist Church-Youth Ministry, c/o Jerry Allen Cole, P.O. Box 176, Bedias, Texas 77831.
Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
