Vernice (Patterson) Taylor was born in Somerville, Texas October 13, 1950 to Henry & Henrietta (Scarlett) Patterson. Vernice married Earnest L. Taylor in 1968. The two moved to Germany in 1969 while Earnest was stationed at Duren, Germany. They traveled all over Europe together until she returned to the states in 1971.
Vernice obeyed the gospel in 1989 and was an active member of the West Main Church of Christ. She served her community by participating in the summer lunch program. Vernice worked as an educator for Madisonville C.I.S.D. She loved the students that entered her classroom and served as a mentor who provided sound wisdom and unconditional (sometimes tough) love. Currently, Vernice was in her 20th year of employment where she worked as the In School Suspension personnel at Madisonville High School.
Vernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and researching her family’s lineage and origin.
Vernice passed through the heavenly gates to meet her Lord February 19, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Henrietta Patterson and Elijah and Carrie Scarlett, and brother Clay “Bubba” Scarlett.

Worth, Christopher Taylor (Patricia Scholz) of Spring, Sharee Gilbert (Christopher) of Houston, Talara Johnson of Madisonville, and LaQuitta Lister of Austin; brothers, Elijah “Jackie” Scarlett (Synthear) of Galveston, and Russell Scarlett of College Station; sisters, Brenda Moore (Robert) of Spring, Erma Brown of Brenham, Barbara Anderson of Killeen, and Delisa Saxton (Tony) of Brenham and grandchildren, Karisma, Mackenzie, Chaeli, Cy, Nevaeh, Aniyah, Kaiden, and Christian.
