Wanda Lanette Matthews

Wanda Lanette Matthews was born to Bedford and Grace (Stanley) Sharp on February 18, 1937 in Liberty, Texas. In 1953, she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Ray Matthews. They went on to grow their family between 1956 and 1962, welcoming Sheryl, Brenda, Bubba and Cathy. In 1963, they moved to Iola, Texas where they resided for the next forty-two years. In 2006, she moved to Humble, Texas to an active senior living community until her passing on June 14, 2023, where she was surrounded by her loved ones.

In all her years on this earth, Wanda was a devoted, loved and admired wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, sister, cousin, aunt and one of the best friends anyone could ever ask for.

Wanda lived a life of love and devotion to her family, whether by blood or not. That love was shown through her cooking, crocheting, sewing, the occasional "spanking by switch" and specifically beating you in games such as marbles and dominoes.

Wanda will be remembered for her warm heart and also her mischievous, sassy nature. No matter where she lived, everyone who came in contact with her spoke of her kindness, creativity and good food. Her love of life, humor and her giving nature lives on in all her family and friends.

Wanda was greeted in heaven by her husband, Leonard Ray Matthews, Sr.; both of her parents, Bedford and Grace (Stanley) Sharp; grand babies, Clinton Ray Matthews, Victoria Parker, Seana Mitchell and Khloe Floyd; son-in-law, Roger Parker, Sr.; sisters, Francis Strickland, Margie Dowell and Gloria Sharp; and brother, Donald Sharp. She will be forever missed by her daughters, Sheryl Parker, Brenda Wetherell and Cathy (Shannon) Baker; son, Leonard (Syble) Matthews; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Loftin and Mary Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Wanda will take place at 11 A.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Carl Ray Holmes will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Lake Grove Cemetery, Iola, Texas. A time of visitation and remembrance will be held Monday, June 19th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M at the funeral home.
